With beautiful warm weather set for the weekend, it could be the perfect opportunity to head down to one of these beaches.

Saturday and Sunday will see highs of 22°C and lows of around 12°C.

This selection of beaches below are perfect for family trips or romantic getaways, with attractions on the seafront or quieter spots along the coast.

1. Leigh-on-Sea is near Southend and is a traditional fishing village renowned for its cobbled streets, cafes and cockleboats. People can go swimming, windsurfing and sailing on Leigh-on-Sea beach when the tide is right – when it’s low, children can enjoy sinking their toes into the mud flats.

The beach itself is only 10 minutes from Leigh Railway Station and there’s parking available nearby.

2. Westcliff beach is near Westcliff-on-Sea and is a long shingles beach which is also in walking distance from the longest amusement pier in the world which makes this spot perfect for families looking for some entertainment as well.

3. Chalkwell beach is also near Southend-on-Sea and is one of the quieter part of the beach away from the hustle and bustle.

4. Ruislip lido may not be by the sea but it certainly has all the beach vibes with its 60-acre lake and it’s in London’s zone 6! There are lots of children-friendly activities and it is surrounded by a large serene nature reserve waiting to be explored.

5. Thorney Bay beach is a small sheltered sandy beach on Canvey Island and has a café nearby making it great for a little day trip. It offers views of the Kent coast across the river and is a good spot for watching the ships come and go up the Thames.
