It pays to be polite - but not in politics. The administration should be reeling from attacks on its mishaps in the pandemic including the present concern over the Delta variant, the rewriting of the Levelling Up Fund to favour Tory-held constituencies, the contrast in attitude between the billions given (not lent) to mostly foreign-owned train operating companies and the parsimonious treatment of NHS staff and children and other mishaps. Instead the administration is riding high in the polls.

Whenever I watch Prime Minister’s questions on TV I am reminded of Denis Healey’s words “like being savaged by a dead sheep”. The leader of the opposition really needs more fire in his belly to accomplish his task.
