A park and several roads in and around Watford town centre were cleaned up following a community-led event between residents and councillors.

Waterfields Park, Water Lane, Shaftesbury Road and Ebury Road were given a 'spring clean' as part of the annual Keep Britain Tidy campaign.

Central Watford councillor Aga Dychton organised the event which involved a number of local residents and her Liberal Democrat ward colleagues.

Cllr Dychton said: "Whilst the park was relatively clean thanks to efforts of Veolia, it was still disappointing that despite so many litter bins, waste was still left from those using the park benches for picnics."

Watford Observer:

Cllr Marilyn Devonish added: "It was great to get stuck in helping out and to be joined by a number of local residents in helping out and to receive thanks from those using the park whilst we were there.

"If we all do our bit, use the bins, take litter home and help keep the area clean, we all benefit.".

The councillors have pledged clean up other areas across Central Watford.

The Great British Spring Clean is an annual event organised by a charity called Keep Britain Tidy. This year's event began on May 28 and ended on June 13.
