Firefighters were rushed to a school in Rickmansworth over fears of a fire – but it turned out to be a false alarm.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue says it was called to Croxley Danes School at 8am on Sunday to a report that the automatic fire alarms had been activated.

A fire engine from Watford Fire Station was rushed to the scene, the fire service said.

But after finding no fire, firefighters deemed the alert to be a false alarm.

A spokesperson from the fire service said: “We were called at 8am on Sunday to a report that the automatic fire alarms at Croxley Danes School had been activated.

“A fire engine from Watford Fire Station was sent to the scene, but after checking the premises, firefighters could not find any signs of fire and the alert was determined to be a false alarm.”

A spokesperson added that there had been "some kind of glitch" in the alarm system.
