The lady captain of a golf club managed to achieve 100 holes of golf in one day to help a local blind centre.
Hilary Allwright, who lives in Rickmansworth, dedicated around 17 hours of her day last Tuesday (June 22) from 4.50am to 10pm to raise money for the Watford Social Centre for the Blind.
The lady captain of the Moor Park Golf Club felt a personal attachment to the work the centre did after her father gradually lost his sight.
She explained that her father losing her sight was devastating to him, as he was unable to do the things he loved such as playing football, cycling, bowling, driving his car and motorbike or even go to art classes.
“His world got a lot smaller,” she explained.
The initial aim before the fundraiser was to do four rounds – 72 holes – but in the end she completed 100 holes after 526 shots.
She joined Moor Park Golf Club around 10 years ago, years after she began to take up the sport while on holiday, inspired by her husband.
Over the years her passion for the sport continued and she kept training, and now she claims she is even “better than her husband”.
