Temporary on-demand buses will be available for free to residents at an estate who currently have no local access to post office services and some shops.
The redevelopment of 133 new homes is ongoing at the Meriden estate, resulting in the temporary closure of the existing post office while the owners finalise preparations to move to the brand new parade of shops.
This has meant that people living by the Meriden currently have less accessibility to vital post office services.
To combat this, Watford Community Housing have partnered with the council to offer the on-demand ArrivaClick services for free.
The service will ensure that Meriden residents have easy access to a local post office without having to pay for transport.
Watford Community Housing says it is fully funding this dedicated service, which collects people from the Meriden and provides transport to the post office in Bushey Mill Lane.
A new pop-up service will provide better access on the Meriden - it will be situated by Meriden Community Centre, but it is still being prepared.
I am delighted that @watfordgateway listened to myself & residents to set up an interim pop-up post office & temporary transport for Meriden residents. It is vital that everybody has easy access to the @PostOffice so it is great that those on the Meriden have these facilities. https://t.co/32QJJxz3P0

ArrivaClick launched in July last year to offer affordable on-demand travel and help reduce congestion.
Watford Community Housing’s Tina Barnard said: "We know that people in our communities rely on the post office, so we were determined to strike a deal to make sure these services remain accessible to our residents.
"This bus service offers that accessibility and delivers on our promise to put our residents’ needs at the heart of every decision we make."
Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "We are proud to help support Watford residents throughout this period – providing a quick and easy way to get to and from the Post Office at no cost.
"ArrivaClick is just one of the ways we are making Watford a greener, more sustainable place, and we are excited that residents will have the opportunity to try out the service."
To use the service from the Meriden, residents can call 0345 501 0000 and quote ‘CLICKMERIDEN’ to be picked up from a location close to their home.
Users of the service can also take advantage of onboard facilities such as free Wi-Fi and USB charging points.
