A serious assault which resulted in two people taken to hospital has been the cause of delays at Watford Junction this morning.

There have been major disruptions this morning on the London Northwestern Railway and Overground from Euston Railway Station to Watford Junction.

National Rail initially expected disruptions to last until at least 11am, but now it suggests delays could last the whole day.

According to British Transport Police, officers were called to Euston following reports of a serious assault on-board a train.

Specialist officers were deployed, and a man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and conveyed to police custody.

Two people have been taken to a hospital for treatment to deep cut wounds.

According to the force, their injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life threatening.

Network Rail previously explained that a member of staff at the station had been injured.

Eyewitnesses have explained that “heavily armed officers” have been seen at Euston.

Trains at London Euston may be cancelled or could face delays up to 60 minutes, with disruption expected the whole day.

James Dean, Network Rail's West Coast South route director, said: "We're sorry to passengers disrupted by a police incident at London Euston station this morning which caused a number of trains to be delayed or cancelled.

"We thank people for thier patience and we'd urge anyone travelling today to check National Rail enquiries while we try to get services running to the normal timetable again."

Both the Overground and London Northwestern are affected by the delays between London Euston and Watford Junction, as trains are currently unable to run between Euston and Kilburn High Road.

Commuters are advised to check the journey planner this morning.

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today.
