People can expect to see an increased police presence in Watford on Sunday as England take on Italy in the final of Euro 2020.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says it is deploying extra officers across the county for the big game, which could see England win a major tournament for the first time since 1966.

The force has been increasing its patrols for all England games in the tournament and hopes that any celebrations on Sunday are "good natured" like they were after the team's semi-final win over Denmark on Wednesday.

In the town centre outside venues near Slug and Lettuce and The Colombian Press, fans gathered around to sing and dance following the Three Lions' 2-1 victory.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, a police spokesperson said: “In terms of Watford specifically, we are hoping that the celebrations of this historic occasion are good natured - as they were for the semi-final against Denmark - where there were no football related arrests within Watford.

“Extra officers will be deployed across the county, as they have been for all England fixtures, and our extra resources being deployed will also be able to support peers dealing with other normal daily policing issues.”

Ahead of each England game police have posted advice on their social media pages to ensure football fans enjoy the matches sensibly.

This is includes avoiding drink driving, not drinking too much alcohol and not to take feelings out on family members or a partner.
