A Gaelic football club in Watford has raised nearly £5,000 for a hospital charity.

Glen Rovers Gaelic Football Club have been raising funds for Watford General Hospital since March last year.

They did this by walking, running, and cycling 1,000km in aid of West Hertfordshire Hospital NHS Trust charity Raise.

Club president Jerry Brennan recently presented a cheque to Raise’s charity director, Sofia Sheikh at Watford General.

Mr Brennan said: "Glen Rovers have always been an extremely active club in Watford, ever since our foundation over 60 years ago.

"During this terrible pandemic, we as a club, felt we had to do something to help and support each other and more importantly, to try and help and support the families of the true heroes of this pandemic, those who unfortunately paid the highest price and lost their lives whilst trying to help others at our amazing Watford General Hospital.

"On behalf of all at Glen Rovers GAA club, we thank you and your families for all you have sacrificed during this pandemic."

The money raised will help support the families and loved ones of NHS workers in west Hertfordshire that have been lost to Covid-19.

Charity director at Raise, Sofia Sheikh, said: "We’re incredibly grateful to Glen Rovers Football Club for raising funds that will enable us to support the families of our NHS workers who passed away due to COVID-19.

"A big thank you to the club for raising such an incredible amount which will make such a difference to those families and loved-ones."
