Hertfordshire County Council are now developing cycle lanes across Watford (Watford Observer, July 9) and in some cases reducing two lanes down to one.

Harrow Council have recently ripped out the cycle lanes that caused no end of traffic delays and hindered emergency vehicles from getting through. I drove along one particular stretch of road a few times a week and never once saw a cyclist using the cycle lanes.

I hope these new cycle lanes in Watford, at the cost to us council tax payers, will not cause similar traffic problems and be ripped up after a few months.

And before I get protests, I am not anti-cyclists but I do object to our roads being reduced to one lane that will still accommodate the same amount of traffic.
