To pass away some of the lockdown hours I devised a competition for the song title to best sum up the administration’s efforts to fight the virus. As the only competitor I duly won.

Titles that came to mind were ‘Anything you can do’, ‘Blue fear’, ‘Confusion’. If the first line of the song had been allowed ‘The twist/Let’s twist again’ would have been favourite. Then Freedom Day came along and further titles arose, ‘Let it be and Live and let die’ but ‘It all depends on you’ came top.

The administration had given up on its attempt to combat the virus and passed responsibility to the people and also, with the risk of being sued, to business. Rampant infections were anticipated. Nice work but the effect on the NHS app was overlooked. Will supportive scientists get the blame?

Whether the UK could afford another lockdown is questionable but it may come to that with or without a change in the administration. However the insurance industry may save them the trouble if the safeguards given up by the administration such as social distancing and a ban on mass attendances become conditions of insurance.

Ah well, you can’t win them all.
