RARELY a week passes without comment that "The new hospital should be built somewhere with easy access". Whilst the proposed design does not thrill me, I wonder if correspondents consider the human logistics of running such an establishment?
The consultants and surgeons merit a generous wage, but think about the important army of cleaners, caterers, orderlies at the other end of the pay scale who are likely barely above minimum wage. With often unsocial working hours, how do they get to and from work? Many can't afford cars - don't forget that WGH also charges staff for car parking.
This all points to having local cheap housing within walking distance: where better than West Watford? And as for all the new housebuilding around Watford, don't forget that the council increases their income from the domestic rates...
