A church has been given £3,000 to help improve access for visitors with impaired mobility.

The grant has been awarded by Hertsmere Borough Council to North Bushey Baptist Church in Park Avenue.

The funding will go towards repairing uneven and cracked pathways, as well as replacing ramps and handrails and other essential maintenance. This will help wheelchair and scooter users, young children, and parents with pushchairs, to use the building more safely.

The church hall is regularly used by community groups.

Church administrator Alison Harvey said: "The grant will make a huge difference in making our hall a safer and more accessible facility for the whole north Bushey community."

Bushey North Liberal Democrat councillor Alan Matthews paid a visit to the church recently after he helped secure the funding.

As part of the work, and to improve the appearance of the building, the church will also be using its own funds to repair rotting windows and doors.

Members have already replaced windows damaged by vandals during lockdown.
