The number of positive coronavirus cases in Watford are on the increase, new figures have revealed.

Official NHS England figures show the case numbers rose by 43 to Friday.

A total of 10,797 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Watford since the pandemic began, up from 10,754 on Thursday.

There were at least 282 cases recorded between Auust 13 and 19, which is up from 272 between August 6 and 12.

According to a map updated daily, the areas of Watford which recorded the most cases in the seven days to August 17 were Holywell (42 cases), Central Watford (28), and Stanborough (also 28).

The latest Public Health England data shows one resident living in Watford died on August 17, within 28 days of a positive Covid test on. A death also occurred on August 7. 

The dashboard shows 224 people Watford residents have died within 28 days of a positive Covid test since the pandemic began.

It means there have been two deaths in the past week, which is an increase on none the previous week.

They were among 13,633 deaths recorded across the East of England.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Watford.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death, so some areas might see their figures revised down.

The figures also show that nearly two-thirds of people in Watford have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 58,074 people had received both jabs by August 19 (Thursday) – 65% of those aged 18 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

Across England, 76% of people aged 18 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
