South Oxhey Leisure centre is offering free activities to celebrate a year since a major extension.

The leisure centre had major improvement works since February 2019 and finally reopened last September following a £9 million investment.

New facilities including a 25-metre four lane pool and large teaching pool were introduced, in addition to new exercise studios.

When it was unveiled, Covid restrictions at the time meant that there could not be a major event to welcome clients to the reopening.

Now to mark the one-year anniversary, the centre will host a variety of free activities next Saturday (September 4) from 9am to 3pm.

These include free swim sessions in the new pool, and group exercise classes such as dance, spin, body blast and circuits.

Other sessions will also be held for people to try out, such as martial arts and gymnastics.

Some of Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions will also be making an appearance and hosting ‘taster classes’ in their sport.

John Sewell, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: “We are so excited to finally be able to show off our new facilities with a free open day.

“We’d encourage anyone who has not yet had the chance to see the centre for themselves, to come along on Saturday 4th September and try something new.

“It has been a tough year for the industry, so it’s great to be able to shout about something positive and we are proud to be able to provide a fun day of activities for the community to enjoy for free.”

Cllr Chris Lloyd, lead member for leisure, added: "If you've been inspired by Team GB's success in the recent Olympics to raise your fitness or take up a sport such as swimming, cycling, or gymnastics, this is a great chance to find out how you can achieve your goal.

"The new facilities at South Oxhey Leisure Centre are superb with a huge variety of exercise classes suitable for all abilities."
