Disruptive youths are being asked to stay away from the Oxhey Jets Football Club grounds after a patch of grass on the pitch was set alight.

There have been frequent issues in the past few months with youths accessing the disused Sir James Altham swimming pool building off Altham Way in South Oxhey and the affecting the Oxhey Jets ground.

Hertfordshire Constabulary were forced to up patrols in the area back in May after receiving two reports of children aged between 12 and 16 accessing the roof of the disused pool to gain entry inside the building.

During one of the disturbances, the pipes at the disused building were damaged and left the neighbouring Oxhey Jets without water.

Now, it has been revealed that a group of youths were able to access the main Oxhey Jets pitch and that they set alight a patch of dry grass.

The force explained that a local dog walker and friend of the club spotted the smoke and was quick to call the fire brigade before it caused much damage.

Police will be interviewing suspects identified from the club’s CCTV in the coming weeks.

Oxhey Jets founder John Elliot previously revealed to the Observer that the disturbance in May meant the club had to stop trades and preparations to reopen due to the lack of water and source of sanitation.

Patrols in the area are to continue to prevent any further acts of deviance.

Hertfordshire Constabulary encourages anyone who witnesses suspicious activity at the site to call police on 999.
