Public health data has revealed the proportion of residents - by age - in our area who have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine.

The vaccination programme has been running since the end of last year and vaccination centres have been operating across Watford and the surrounding area of months.

Currently anyone over the age of 16 is entitled to receive a Covid vaccine, which health officials say offers the best protection against coronavirus.

The latest Public Health England data shows us how willing different age groups locally have been in taking up the vaccine.

In Watford, around a quarter of those aged over 16 remain unvaccinated, which is the highest proportion in Hertfordshire.

Data shows that uptake has declined as age groups get younger.

For example, 95.1 of Watford's over 90s have had at least one Covid vaccine, whereas 85.5 per cent aged 60-64 have.

The lowest uptake has come in 16 to 17-year-olds, where 53.8 per cent have been vaccinated once, as of September 4.

The data shows more 18-24 year-olds (66.3 per cent) in Watford have been vaccinated than 25-29-year-olds (63.2 per cent) and 30-34-year-olds (64.2 per cent).

In Three Rivers district, the uptake in vaccinations has been higher - and is above the England average particularly in age groups between 30 and 50.

Young adults in the district have also been more inclined to take the vaccine.

Hertsmere's vaccination figures are also above the average for England with between 88 per cent and 94 per cent of the borough's over 55s receiving at least one vaccination.
