The iconic Flying Scotsman is due to pass through Watford later today (Friday).

According to Real Time Trains, the famous locomotive is on its way down from the north of England and bound for Southall in west London.

It looks like the train is travelling south via the West Coast mainline which means it will pass through Watford Junction and neighbouring stations.

Today, it is just the steam locomotive and a support coach travelling along the tracks rather than the full train.

The public will have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Flying Scotsman in our area of Hertfordshire from around 5pm (September 17).

At the time of publishing, the train is currently scheduled to pass through Hemel Hempstead at 4.55pm, Apsley at 4.57pm, Kings Langley at 4.59pm, Watford Junction at 5.02pm, and Bushey at 5.04pm, before heading into Harrow and the other parts of west London.

However these times can be subject to change - for the latest timetable click here.

The video below shows the train passing through Action Bridge in Cheshire at around lunchtime today.

The Flying Scotsman is a steam locomotive built in 1923 and described as the "world's most famous steam locomotive".

The locomotive is currently owned by the National Railway Museum and it was retired from regular service in 1963.

However it has been preserved under several owners including Alan Pegler, William McAlpine, and Tony Marchington.
