A couple re-enacted their wedding ceremony in front of a nearly 100-year-old grandmother who was unable to attend the official ceremony.

Nesta Williams, who turns 100 on May 25, desperately wanted to see her granddaughter get married on Monday (October 11) but was unable to leave her care at Chorleywood Beaumont care home.

Bride Charlotte Butler and her husband Rhys Butler decided to re-enact the ceremony at the care home the day after (October 12) along with a selection of wedding guests to make her grandmother’s dream come true.

Mrs Butler’s wedding dress was originally worn by her mother, and her grandmother actually helped to make the original dress.

Talking about the ceremony, the grandmother said: “I am just so happy to see my granddaughter married, she looks an absolute picture – I wish them both a long and happy life together, I’m delighted they could come to see me and to be part of this wonderful occasion.

“I spent a lot of time with Charlotte when she was growing up and it has always been my wish to see her get married.”

Manager of the care home, Judith Boikhotso, said: “It has been the most wonderful day, we have all been in tears – the bride and groom look so happy and it was just fabulous for Nesta to see them both and the wedding party.

“We all raised a glass to toast the happy couple, it has been absolutely perfect.”
