£250 was stolen from an elderly woman’s account after her bank card was stuck in the machine.
The woman, in her seventies, was at the Morrisons ATM in Ascot Road as she was approached by a man who told her to press certain buttons.
When the woman refused, the man leant across and began pressing the buttons himself and then walked away.
However the machine would not release the woman’s bank card back to the owner.
PC Adam Berry, who is investigating, explained that £250 was fraudulently withdrawn from the victim’s account, and it is believed a second suspect retrieved the card from the machine.
Now CCTV images have been released of a man who might be able to help with the investigation.
PC Berry continued: “The man pictured is thought to have been in the area at the time and he could have vital information that might help us.
“I appreciate he is wearing a mask but I am hopeful that he is still recognisable.
“Perhaps you recognise his clothing? If you think you know him, or you have information that might help, please call the non-emergency number 101 or email me at adam.berry@herts.police.uk quoting crime reference 41/54689/21.”
Information can also be reported at herts.police.uk/report or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org
