A motorist has been fined hundreds of pounds after he undertook a police car on the M1 before speeding off at 100mph in Watford.

Saleem Ahmed, of Balgores Lane in Romford, was driving a Mercedes in the second lane between junctions four and five when he undertook officers travelling in lane three.

He then pulled into lane three and was clocked tearing away at up to 100mph before he was stopped and charged with driving without due care and attention.

Following the incident on May 16 this year the 29-year-old pleaded guilty at North and East Herts Magistrates' Court and was fined £512.

He was also forced to pay a £51 surcharge and £110 costs taking the total to £673.

Ahmed was given six points and disqualified from driving until another test had been passed.
