Watford Borough Council has confirmed when the Christmas lights will be switched on and revealed which special guests will do the honours.

The town's stunning new display will officially be unveiled during an event on The Parade between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday, November 13.

Electric Umbrella and The Locals will be performing festive favourites on stage before X-Factor winners and Watford-based R&B group Rak-Su will flick the switch at around 5pm.

They will also be joined on stage by local heroes when illuminating the new LED display.

Maria Manion, Watford BID’s chief executive, said: “After the disappointment of not being able to host a switch-on event in 2020, we are now even more excited to light up Watford with a spectacular switch-on event this year.

"It’s going to be wonderful to see so many happy faces enjoying our brand new Christmas lights, they really will create a mesmerising spectacle in our ever-improving town centre.”

The council confirmed no tickets or Covid passports are required and large crowds are expected so urged people to avoid the area if they feel uncomfotable.

Attendees are being encouraged to arrive early to avoid congestion, take a rapid Covid test the day before and wear a face covering if close to others they don't usually meet.
