A hubcap has come flying off a car while ambulances had to attend another smash as crashes at a width restriction continue.

Despite incidents in Woodmere Avenue going viral in recent months, drivers continue to strike a set of steel posts in the residential street in Watford.

Yesterday, a black Nissan went hurtling into the posts, destroying the front left wheel. There was no option but for the vehicle to be recovered and both police and paramedics had to attend and block off the road.

Police say a baby and man were checked over, while the female driver went to hospital as a precaution.

And on Tuesday, a black Ford struck a post on the left causing the hubcap on its front left wheel to fly off over the pavement and into a driveway.

Tim Vigor, who lives in Woodmere Avenue, posted on the Facebook page in which he shares incidents that it was "lucky" no one was walking by at the time.

Followers of the page have noted that in both incidents mentioned above, the driver was travelling too quickly for the nature of the road.

The video of the Nissan crashing has since been deleted.

But Mr Vigor has also recently posted collisions where a driver is travelling cautiously and smacked the first post on the left, and the incidents have also highlighted the dangers this seven foot wide restriction can pose to both drivers and pedestrians.

Mr Vigor and his wife Tracy believe the placing of the first left post in line with a dropped kerb is to blame for the majority of crashes - and they want the restriction taken away and cameras installed.

Hertfordshire County Council has failed to respond to concerns raised about that particular post. Other residents in Woodmere Avenue have also called for changes.

However, the council's highways chief Phil Bibby has confirmed in an interview with BBC Radio 3 Counties that the council is working with Watford MP Dean Russell and the Government on a scheme which could see the width restriction taken away and cameras installed instead.

These cameras would be able to catch prohibited vehicles using Woodmere Avenue such as lorries.

Woodmere Avenue went global over the autumn after videos captured on Mr Vigor's door bell camera went viral, reaching as far as Australia and America.

Hertfordshire County Council was approached for comment about the video of the flying hubcap.
