Filming for the new Wonka movie has reportedly been halted after a cast member tested positive for coronavirus.

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequal was being shot at Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden but production has now had to be shut down for five days, a source told The Sun.

It is reported that the positive Covid test has resulted in Timothée Chalamet – who is playing Willy Wonka - and his co-stars having to self-isolate.

A source told The Sun: “There’s a huge amount of money tied up in filming so any delays can become incredibly costly.

“On site medical staff are monitoring the situation and won’t make anyone come back until it’s safe.”

Wonka is being directed by Paul King, best known for his work on the Paddington films.

The film is based on Willy Wonka in an origins story about the eccentric chocolate factory owner.

Roald Dahl’s beloved 1964 children’s book Charlie And The Chocolate Factory tells the story of a young boy who wins a golden ticket to tour the world-famous headquarters run by the mysterious Wonka and staffed by oompa loompas.

Charlie is not expected to feature in Wonka as it is set before the opening of the factory.

Warner Bros has been contacted for comment over the positive Covid test.
