Most people in Watford are calling police over crimes in the centre of the town.

Stats from Police.UK shows the number of reports Hertfordshire Constabulary has received over incidents in the borough between March and August 21.

And a map produced by Newsquest reveals where these are being made and how many were reported per 100 people in each area.

It reveals police recorded most crimes in Central Watford – a total of 35.2 reports per 100 people came from the catchment between the ring road area and near Watford Junction Station.

The other targeted patch is between lower High Street and Radlett Road, where there were 22.78 reports per 100 people.

We visited the town centre to see if people felt safe.

One person named Oana felt it “is a little bit dangerous from my point of view”.

She said: “There’s a lot of junkie people in the road, you don’t feel safe. I don’t think it’s too safe.”

Oana said thieves had once broken into a shop near her overnight and also saw a road rage incident where two people were fighting before one angrily drove off.

She added: “I think we need more police around to check on the roads.”

Other areas where crime reports were high include the Leavesden Green area and North Watford.

Below you can see where crimes have been reported – the darker the colour means more offences were recorded in that area.
