Hertfordshire County Council has revealed some of the community projects county councillors have been supporting financially.

County councillors each have £15,000 to spend on initiatives that promote the social, economic, or environmental wellbeing of their local area.

The following grants have been made in recent months by members in the Watford area to help worthwhile causes.

Stanborough and Woodside Liberal Democrat councillor Tim Williams has given £2,280 towards the installation of a defibrillator at the shopping precinct on the Kingswood estate, as well as £1,000 to encourage pupils at Kingsway Junior School to read.

Colleague Mark Watkin donated £750 to support a pop-up story book within Goodwood Recreation Ground while the Nascot councillor also awarded £500 to the Hertfordshire Community Foundation to help Afghan refugees settle in the county.

West Watford Labour councillor Nigel Bell granted £250 to Herts Inclusive Theatre, providing weekly theatre and creative arts workshops for youngsters, as well as £500 to Playskill to be spent on respite activities and outings for families of disabled children.

Bushey North Lib Dem councillor Laurence Brass awarded £1,000 to support the cost of a Chanukah religious event at Bushey Rose Garden, while he gave £320 to Little Reddings Primary School to support an internet safety project.

Cllr Brass, along with Watling Conservative member Caroline Clapper, each awarded £500 to global distribution charity Goods for Good.

Cllr Clapper also gave £250 to Hertsmere Mencap along with £250 to the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust.

South Oxhey councillor Christopher Alley granted £1,000 to upgrade IT facilities at Bushey and Oxhey Air Cadets, as well as £500 to widen paths and help maintain Oxhey Woods.

Rickmansworth Tory councillor Paula Hiscocks gave £500 to Herts Inclusive Theatre, £500 to Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers, and £125 to enable Get Set 4 Tennis to hold a trophy celebration.

Cllr Hiscocks also granted £500 to Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Helpline.

Croxley Lib Dem member Chris Lloyd gave £750 to improve the physical environment for people living with cancer at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre while Potters Bar East Conservative John Graham awarded £2,000 to Peace Hospice Care in Watford.

And Kings Langley Tory member Richard Roberts granted £3,000 to Bovingdon Scout Group which will help rebuild a scout hut.
