Coronavirus infections have dramatically fallen in Watford, indicating the worst of the Omicron outbreak could be over.

The town was recording a record number of cases throughout December as the new variant spread during the month.

But confirmed cases are now dropping and were down in every neighbourhood but one in the borough during the week to January 9, according to the latest government figures.

It's overall infection rate also fell in the seven days to January 10, seeing 1616.6 cases per 100,000 population compared to 2028.5 the week before.

But while the latest data is promising, Watford still has the highest Covid-19 rate of all 10 districts in Hertfordshire.

And across the county cases still remain high despite starting to drop.

A total of six patients are on ventilation beds.
