Repairs will be made to remedy flooding concerns outside a block of flats.

Residents living at Hayling Road, South Oxhey, at a block of flats owned by Thrive Homes, have issued complaints of flooding near to the path - which initially was believed to be caused by a collapsed drain.

South Oxhey councillor Joan King and her husband Cllr Stephen King inspected the area to find the water and feared if it continued it could reach to the entrance doorway.

Cllr Steve Cox urged the housing association to urgently issue repairs and reinstate the drains.

The area has been closed off with warning signs while each resident in the block has received letters advising them to “be careful” near the area as works will take place.

When contractors attended, they discovered that the issue was with a soakaway which was impacted by tree roots, meaning they would be unable to carry out the repair.

However, a tanker will attend to drain the water away and the soakaway will be dug out and repaired by next Thursday (February 3).

Cllr Stephen King said: “It is a pity this has taken so long to resolve and it has been a pain for residents, but it seems a bit of pressure has helped matters along to a successful conclusion.”

Thrive Homes was contacted for further comment.
