Anthony Joshua returned to Watford on Sunday (January 30) for the opening of a new shop.

The boxing champion, who grew up on the Meriden estate, was giving his support to the Ngorli Community Interest Company as it opened a new facility in St Albans Road.

The group supports children and families in Watford.

Joshua thanked local councillor Dawn Allen-Williamson for inviting him to the event, adding: “It’s my intention to continue to engage with the Watford Community, where I was born.

"Watford is where my heart is and I will always do whatever I can to support the community.”

Mayor Peter Taylor also attended the opening and bumped into Joshua at the event.

The two posed for a photo which was later published by Mr Taylor on Facebook.

He said in a post: “Great to bump into Anthony Joshua at the opening of a new shop on St Albans Road this evening. He does so much to support the local community in Watford.

“Good luck to everyone involved in the new Ngorli Community Interest Company facility. They have been doing brilliant work at their Saturday School and this new premises at 316 St Albans Road should help them to do even more.”

Watford Observer:

Rhoda Amezado, CEO of Ngorli, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their support. I was so pleased that Mayor Peter Taylor and Anthony Joshua came to open my new business.

"I know that working together we can help people in the community to achieve their potential.”

Joshua had also been in Watford around Christmas time last year to put on a day of entertainment for children and families.
