Local councillors are pushing for a major road in Watford to be fully reopened as quickly as possible.

There has been no access into St Albans Road towards Garston for drivers on the Dome Roundabout since the end of last week.

Cadent Gas is carrying out emergency works on a gas main and a permit has been granted until February 7, according to data traffic management website One Network.

Local county councillor Tim Williams received a message from Hertfordshire County Council on Friday (January 28) which confirmed excavation work needed to be carried out that was likely to last until at least Monday.

Work remains ongoing today (Tuesday) with at least two large holes in the road surrounded by barriers and fencing.

It has been causing delays at what is already a very busy roundabout, particularly for drivers coming down the A41 from Leavesden.

Stanborough ward councillor Simon Feldman has contacted Cadent this afternoon for an update after receiving a message from a resident who said the closure is causing a "great deal of inconvenience".

They added because of its location, the job should be a "matter of top priority" but said the lack of workers on-site when photos were taken indicated it wasn't being treated as such.

Cadent has been approached for comment.
