People jailed in January include a man who stabbed another in the chest and a man who slashed a person’s hand.
The list below includes the criminals in Hertfordshire that were put behind bars by judges at St Albans Crown Court during the month.
The offenders' names and a summary of what led to them appearing in the dock are as follows.
David Daniel
A man has been jailed for four years after he slashed another man's hand outside a takeaway in Watford town centre in the early hours of New Year's Day.
David Daniel, 30, was captured on CCTV attacking the victim - who he knew - with a lock knife outside Roosters Piri Piri in the high street.
St Albans Crown Court heard Daniel then fled into Wellstones but he was quickly caught by a female police officer who he had made off from on the ring road near Market Street.
The knife, with an 8cm blade, that he used to attack his victim was discovered on the roof of Holy Rood Catholic Church after he was seen by the officer throwing it away.

O’Dean Boothe
A man has been jailed after he stabbed a teenager in the chest in Watford High Street.
O'Dean Boothe, 22, lunged at the 19-year-old with a blade near Costa Coffee in front of "shocked" shoppers on February 7 2020.
St Albans Crown Court heard Boothe was caught on CCTV stabbing the victim, who was on a bike, in his upper left chest at around 4.45pm.
Police say the victim threw a chair at Boothe in retaliation before Boothe ran from the scene to a waiting BMW in Smith Street.
The stab victim then left the high street and made his way up Queens Road towards Costcutter where he received treatment inside the shop before being flown by helicopter to a hospital in London.
At a sentencing hearing today (January 17), Judge Michael Simon told the court that Boothe, of White Hart Lane, Tottenham, was "fortunate" the punctured lung sustained by the victim was not as "serious" as first thought and he was able to be discharged the following day.

Drus dealers jailed
Three drug dealers who ran a County Lines drug network in the Stevenage area have been jailed for more than 13 years in total.
Following an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Operation Mantis team, three men were arrested for running a drug supply network from Birmingham into Stevenage between December 2020 – May 2021.
This County Line, known as the A1 line, was responsible for supplying crack cocaine and heroin in Stevenage and the surrounding areas.
In May 2021 police executed multiple warrants at addresses across the Birmingham area, arresting three men in the process.
More than £9,000 worth of crack cocaine and heroin was recovered, along with over £12,000 in cash during the operation. The men were charged the following day and remanded into custody.
The men appeared at St Albans Crown Court on Friday 7 January after pleading guilty to conspiring to supply class A drugs at an earlier hearing in July 2021.
- Naeem Ahmed, 25, of Warren Farm Road, Birmingham, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison
- Abdullah Milash, 25, of Merryhill Drive, Birmingham, was sentenced to four years in prison
- Alfie Eaves, 27, of Sinclair Court, Birmingham was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison.
George Chinnery
A man who was found guilty of raping a young boy when he was a teenager has been sentenced to three years in prison.
George Chinnery, who was aged 14 at the time of his offending, orally raped the victim when they were alone together during the school holidays in 2013.
He also forced the victim to touch him inappropriately.
The victim, who was aged eight, lived in the Welwyn Hatfield area of Hertfordshire.
He did not feel able to disclose the abuse to anyone until the summer of 2020, when he told a close family member what had happened.
Chinnery, 22, was convicted of one count of raping a boy under the age of 13, and one count of inciting a boy under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The verdict was delivered at St Albans Crown Court on Wednesday 8 December 2021, after the jury deliberated for five hours and 37 minutes.
On Monday (31 January), Chinnery, of Anne of Cleves Road in Dartford, Kent, again appeared before St Albans Crown Court to be sentenced for his crimes.
Sean Price
A man has been jailed for 25 years after a 16-year-old was shot in the neck in Borehamwood.
Police, armed officers and the ambulance service were called to Cranes Way at 10.50pm on August 4 2020 where they found the victim with a gunshot wound.
He has been left paralysed from the waist down, with restricted mobility from the neck down, after being hospitalised for 10 months.
Sean Price, of Rushmore Road in Ipswich, was charged with attempted murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
The 24-year-old denied all the charges but was found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and not guilty of attempted murder or conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
During the trial the court was told the victim was shot while he was a passenger in a Ford Fusion making its way back to Borehamwood from Barnet.
Price was sentenced to:
- Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life - 21 years
- Possession of a Firearm - 6 years (to run concurrently)
- Possession of an Offensive Weapon (a flick knife) - 12 months (to run concurrently)
- Possession of Cocaine - 7 days (to run concurrently)
He was also deemed a "dangerous offender" so qualified for an extra four years - taking the total to 25 years' jail.
