It's great news that a new public transport scheme is being properly looked at for Watford.

As ideal as it would have been, the project is not happening so alternative ideas to boost connectivity across the town and onto the Underground in Croxley Green must be explored.

It looks like the Watford 2 Croxley Link will be the blueprint for that alternative scheme but there is still much we do not know.

What type of transport will it be? Will it go to Croxley station? When might it be completed? Unfortunately, these are questions those responsible for bringing a project like this to life can’t answer because nothing has been decided and they don’t even know what’s viable.

Making the most of an old railway line through west Watford seems obvious, especially with the amount of development that has gone ahead such as by the hospital, in Sydney Road, and in Ascot Road but the biggest hurdle will be how to link to Croxley Green and whether funding can be secured.

Although the W2CL is in its “earliest stages”, there looks to be a real consensus from Hertfordshire County Council and Watford Borough Council to make something happen.

As county councillor Phil Bibby said in a meeting this week, the “devil will be in the detail”, and we can’t wait to see it.
