A road closure by the Dome Roundabout in Watford has been lifted after being shut for more than a week.

Repairs by Cadent Gas in St Albans Road were completed yesterday (February 8) after the street was initially closed on January 28.

Cadent's attempts to fix the gas leak were delayed after engineers reportedly struggled to find the source of the leak.

It was eventually located seven days after the road was closed and Hertfordshire County Council says repairs were carried out over the weekend.

The council hoped Cadent would be able to reopen St Albans Road on Monday but the road, which had been dug up in parts, needed to be fully reinstated.

Woodside and Stanborough county councillor Tim Williams confirmed Cadent packed up from the scene on Tuesday afternoon with St Albans Road reopening towards Garston by the evening rush hour.

When it was closed, it caused delays in an area which is already hugely congested. In particular, traffic on the A41 coming from the direction of the M25 and Leavesden was affected.

Meanwhile, the traffic lights on the Dome Roundabout temporarily failed yesterday afternoon leaving all of the lights out. The issue was reported by local borough councillor Simon Feldman and the problem was resolved later that day.
