A man wanted by police has been arrested despite climbing onto the roof of a house to try and avoid capture.

Officers say they attended an address in Farraline Road in Watford this morning (February 14) as part of enquiries to trace a man they were looking for.

Police say the suspect attempted to evade police by climbing onto a roof and reportedly threw objects so a decision was taken to close Farraline Road.

A photograph taken by a passer-by shows a person on the roof of a two-storey property while officers stood in the street below. The fire service and paramedics were also called in.

Police said the incident was resolved safely with Farraline Road reopening just after 11.30am.

The road closure caused traffic delays in the area with Vicarage Road, Wiggenhall Road, and Merton Road all affected.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police have arrested a 35year-old man following an incident at an address in Farraline Road, Watford, earlier this morning (Monday 14 February).

"Officers attended the address at around 9.35am this morning as part of their enquiries to trace a man who was wanted.

"The suspect attempted to evade police by climbing on to the roof and reportedly throwing objects.

"The fire service and ambulance service were also called to the address, and road closures were put in place to allow emergency services to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

"The man was arrested at the scene, where he was treated by paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to police custody.

"The road closures were lifted by 11.32am."
