The refurbished Rickmansworth Household Waste Recycling Centre finally opens its doors this morning, but will still offer a reduced service for the time being.

A multi-million pound rebuild of the Riverside Drive site had been due for completion at the start of December, but delays in building works pushed that date back.

Although the major part of the work is complete, lighting still needs to be installed so initially the opening hours will be 8am to 4pm. Once the lighting is connected, the site will open from 8am to 6pm, every day of the week.

County Councillor Derrick Ashley, executive member for planning, external relations and waste said: "The refurbished site in Rickmansworth will offer many improvements to local people.

"It is now bigger which will reduce waiting times, and it still provides a full recycling service, but with greater capacity for all materials.

"The works did take longer than we had originally anticipated and although we are only able to offer a restricted service during daylight hours for the first few weeks, we felt it was best to get the site open at the earliest opportunity."

Anyone wishing to recycle this weekend is encouraged to use the Waterdale household waste recycling centre on the A405, next to junction six of the M1 at Bricket Wood.

There is also another facility in Wiggenhall Road, Watford.
