Streets in Watford and South Oxhey are set to be temporarily closed for roadworks.

A notice from Hertfordshire County Council in this week’s edition of the Watford Observer details its intention to make orders to shut roads to allow works to be carried out, along with other traffic restrictions that may also be needed.

All temporary closure orders are valid for up to 18 months and works will only be carried out at the times specified on signs at or near the relevant locations.

The council is intending to make an order to close the following lengths of road in Watford and to prohibit all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides whilst drainage works are carried out:

  • Buckingham Road from its junction with Parkgate Road north-westwards and south-westwards for its entire length. The alternative route will be via Parkgate Road and Sandringham Road.
  • Chilcott Road from its junction with Courtlands Drive south-eastwards and south-westwards to its junction with Gammons Lane, a distance of 292m. The alternative route will be via Courtlands Drive and Gammons Lane.
  • Cross Road from its junction with Haydon Road north-eastwards and south-westwards for its entire length. There is no alternative route available but the notice states access to properties will be maintained “whenever possible”.
  • Hazel Tree Road from its junction with Leggatts Wood Avenue south-westwards to its junction with Beechwood Rise, a distance of 244m. The alternative route will be via Leggatts Wood Avenue, Cherry Tree Road and Beechwood Rise.

This order, if made, will come into force on March 15.

Drainage works are also set to close the service road fronting Nos. 16 to 32 Little Oxhey Lane, South Oxhey, from its westernmost junction with B4542 Little Oxhey Lane southwards, eastwards and northwards for its entire length, except for access.

In addition, waiting at any time will be prohibited on both sides of this length of road while the works are carried out.

This order is due to take effect on March 14.
