An climate activist who previously was jailed for blocking the M25 tied himself up to a goalpost as Everton played Newcastle United.

Louis McKechnie, 21, was captured during yesterday’s (March 17) Premier League match when he ran onto the pitch at Goodison Park and cable-tied his neck to the goal as part of a ‘Just Stop Oil’ campaign.

The campaign calls for the Government to end new fossil fuel supply projects.

But it’s not the first time Mr McKechnie made his way in headlines, as he was previously among the Insulate Britain protesters that blocked the M25 at Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, last year on October 8.

Following his release, he teased he would “absolutely” do it again.

Wearing a ‘Just Stop Oil’ t-shirt during the Everton home-game, he disrupted the game as the referee stopped play for around six minutes as security attempted to remove him.

He was eventually cut free using a pair of bolt cutters and was led from the ground, to boos from the crowd, by police.

Merseyside Police said the protester was arrested.
