Bushey Museum is on the lookout for new volunteers to help with a range of activities.

Museum trustee Barry Hyman says people are needed to look after visitors as well as help with gardening, school visits, and house tours at Reveley Lodge in Bushey Heath.

'Computer savvy' people are also needed to help the museum with its systems.

Although the museum is short on volunteers, members have welcomed the donations that have come in over the pandemic to keep the museum going.

Mr Hyman said: "It was a huge surprise, and a pleasant one. Being closed for so long, I expected perhaps three or four hundred pound. There was close to a thousand.

"How grateful we are to all donors. And the treasurer Catherine Earle is a happy lady."

The museum also held a fundraiser on March 19 in memory of its manager Gareth Wood who died last year at the age of 53.

The art studio behind the museum hosted more than 100 visitors for tea and homemade cake, and round £700 was raised for Peace Hospice Care, a charity which cared for Mr Wood before he died.

Museum chairman Rita Castle said: "The generosity of local people and friends of Gareth from further afield who attended enabled us to commemorate him by raising money to help other cancer sufferers."

The museum also recently installed a defibrillator at its venue in memory of Mr Wood.

Meanwhile, the Friends of Bushey Museum and Reveley Lodge recently dined together at a restaurant at West Herts College Restaurant, with food prepared and served by college catering students.
