A care home held a celebration for one of its employees marking two decades of service.

Senior carer Alexis Cook has spent 20 years at Friars Mead in Kings Langley and described those at the home "like a second family".

To mark her milestone, residents and staff - some of whom have known Alexis since she began work as a teenager - presented her with flowers, chocolates, and a small gift.

Care home secretary Claire Alderson said: "She hasn't changed a bit. We have been alongside Alexis and fondly remember the birth of her son Leo, who has changed her life.

"Many residents have found great comfort and support in her friendly and light hearted disposition."

Friars Mead says Alexis can "turn her hand to anything" from helping in the kitchen or other activities to just sitting down with residents.

Sylvia, who lives at Friars Mead, said: "I call her wonder woman! She is always there at the right time and has helped me no end. She produces foam cushions just at the right time to sooth sore tails and is a whizz with fixing our hearing aids."
