MOTORISTS using the motorway network near Watford and surrounding areas are set to have their journeys disrupted due to a package of overnight closures that could last for almost a year.

A notice from National Highways in this week’s edition of the Watford Observer details the extent of the closures that will affect the M25, M1 and associated slip and link roads.

The authority is intended to make an order that will authorise the phased overnight closure of:

  • The anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 between Junction 24 (A411) and Junction 21 (M1 Junction 6A).
  • The clockwise carriageway of the M25 between Junction 15 (M4 Junction 4B) and Junction 17 (A405).
  • The anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 between Junction 17 (A405) and Junction 14 (A3113).
  • All slip and link roads leading to and from these lengths of carriageway.
  • The roads leading to and from the northbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 6 (A405).
  • The road connecting to the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 from the London-bound carriageway of the M40 at M25 Junction 16 (M40 Junction 1A).
  • The roads connecting to both carriageways of the M25 from the westbound carriageway of the M40 at Junction 16 (M40 Junction 1A).
  • The road leading to the southbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 6 (A405).

The notice states the work is expected to last for 11 months starting on or after April 18 and will involve barrier, carriageway, drainage, electrical, bridge inspections and other works.

The overnight closures will take place between (maximum periods): Mondays to Thursdays – 10pm to 5.30am; Fridays – 11pm to 6am; Saturdays – 10pm to 6am; Sundays – 10.30pm to 5.30am.

Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted via other junctions of the M1 and M25 or by using the M4, M40, A1(M), A40, A111, A405, A412, A414, A1000, A1001, A1081, A3044 and A3113.
