Images have been drawn up showing what new homes could look like on the site of a popular nightclub.

The owners of a building which houses Pryzm and Iceland in Watford town centre have announced a proposal to turn it into 146 flats.

The plans would "result in the closure" of Pryzm - the club says it hopes any formal application will be "seen off".

Dwyer Asset Management Limited, which is promoting the site on behalf of owners Watford Parade (Gibraltar) Limited, has launched an online consultation which allows visitors to look more closely at the proposals and give feedback.

The website includes a selection of computer-generated images (CGIs) showing what the redeveloped building in The Parade could look like.

The images suggest the building would keep its current shape but go through an extensive redesign that Dwyer describes as "modern and attractive".

The consultation says the owners want to create a new "family friendly retail space" and the images show retail space allocated on the ground floor.

The CGIs show the proposed scheme from a variety of viewpoints including the Sainsbury's car park, The Parade, and Rickmansworth Road.

Those promoting the development say they are currently engaging with Watford Borough Council, the local planning authority, on the proposal.

Pryzm, which leases the building, issued a statement to the Observer earlier this month in which it said it hopes the council will "see off" any planning application if and when one is officially made.

A spokesperson for Rekom UK, the company that owns Pryzm, said: "Pryzm is one of the most successful and long-lived clubs in the south of England. Formerly Top Rank, Baileys, Paradise Lost, Kudos, Destiny, Oceana and now PRYZM, it has entertained millions of visitors over 40 years and we hope that it will continue to do so for years to come.

"It plays a key part in feeding the success of other bars and restaurants in the town centre and in its own right employs over 100 staff."

They added: "The landlord is within its rights to explore alternative options for the site but we hope the people of Watford and the town planning department will see off attempts to remove the key attraction to the night-time economy, which attracts businesses, creates jobs and drives income, for yet another residential scheme."
