A woman snuck into a residential home in South Oxhey before stealing hair straighteners and clothes worth £315.

Claire Wines, of Oxhey Drive, trespassed into a property on the same road but snubbed the often-targeted valuables.

Instead, the 33-year-old nabbed BaByliss hair straighteners, sand-coloured CAT boots and a black leather jacket.

She also took a black Zara puffer jacket and a blue Nike hoodie.

It happened on February 23 before she then failed to attend St Albans Magistrates’ Court on March 25 having been released on bail.

Wines pleaded guilty to the theft and bail charges last week and the case was adjourned to enable a pre-sentence report to happen.

Also in court

A separate case heard at St Albans Magistrates’ Court this week saw a man sentenced for intentionally damaging an ambulance.

Roy Stallard, 42, of Martin Avenue in Hemel Hempstead, was charged over the offence in Watford in December 2020.

He pleaded not guilty in April last year before it was proved in his absence last month, and on Monday he was ordered to pay £195.

He was not forced to pay any compensation because no information was available on the clean-up cost, court documents say.

A community order was made requiring him to complete rehabilitation activities.
