‘POSITIVE’ customers at a village supermarket have been buying cans to help people in Ukraine – and the firm behind it has pledged to match every pound.
Customers visiting Sweeney’s Budgens, in High Street, Abbots Langley, can choose to donate as little as £1 by buying a blue and yellow can that represents food being sent to Ukraine.
Since the launch on April 8, customers have donated £550, bringing the total sum to £1,100 with Sweeney's Budgen’s input.
Dary Sweeney, the shop’s owner, said: “We all feel desperately inadequate about not being able to do enough, this is a nice way to do something. Customers have been very positive.”
The funds will be sent to charities Support 4 Ukraine and Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline. All food will be sourced in bulk and at cost price.
