The number of people living in Watford receiving unemployment benefits has almost halved since just over a year ago, figures show.
The Office for National Statistics says those receiving unemployment benefits peaked in February 2021 at 4,400.
The figure currently stands at 2,415, which is a fall of 45 per cent.
Watford mayor Peter Taylor has welcomed the fall and says the council has plans to support and grow businesses in the town.
Mr Taylor, who is seeking re-election as mayor on May 5, said: "An important part of my plan for the future of Watford is to keep investing in our town to make sure our economy can thrive. We have plans to create an innovation and incubation hub to support new and growing businesses, and to continue our high-profile shop and eat local campaigns.
"The investment in improvements to Clarendon Road, St Albans Road and Market Street and the work already starting at Watford Business Park will mean more local jobs.
"It is vital that we have a thriving local economy. These statistics show unemployment is falling in Watford and I will do everything I can to make sure that continues."
