A neighbour broke down the door of a flat that was on fire to help free those trapped inside.

Hertfordshire Fire &Rescue says it was called to reports of a fire at a property in Watford Road, Croxley Green, at 11.35pm last night (April 15).

The initial emergency call stated people were trapped inside and crews from Watford and Rickmansworth were quickly dispatched.

While en-route, the fire service says another call came in to say that a neighbour had broken the door of the first floor flat down to release the trapped people.

When crews did arrive, they found smoke inside the flat which was extinguished using a hosereel and a jet.
