Properties at a retirement village under construction in Watford are proving to be "incredibly popular", according to the developer's chief executive.

The Mayfield scheme near Watford General Hospital consists of 255 one and two-bedroom retirement apartments with access to communal gardens, a swimming pool, gym, and cafe-bistro.

The development forms part of the wider Riverwell scheme and it is set to open later this year.

Nick Sanderson, who is chief of the Audley Group, which provides retirement villages, says there have been more sales in Watford at this stage than any other of their other villages.

He said: "Mayfield Watford has already proven itself to be incredibly popular. We’ve seen the highest number of properties sold prior to opening, compared to any other village in our Audley Group portfolio.

"What this highlights is the simple need to give more people more choice about how and where they live as they get older."

As the first phase of construction nears completion, the Audley Group has released images of a show apartment to give a taste of what the properties will look like inside.

As move-in date edges closer, the Audley Group has appointed Nick Vincent as Mayfield Watford's general manager.

Mr Vincent said: "To lead and help shape the Mayfield brand as Audley Group enters the mid-market is a fantastic opportunity for me.

"Mayfield will draw on some of the attributes that makes Audley great, from high quality interiors, a balanced and varied events calendar and most importantly team members who care and deliver high levels of customer service."

He added: "At Mayfield, owners can become part of a community and socialise with like-minded people whilst creating lifelong memories."
