A nursery was hailed by Ofsted inspectors as children showed “high levels of confidence and self-esteem”.

Wonderworks nursery at Leavesden’s Warner Bros Studios opened with the help of actress Charlotte Riley to provide the first dedicated childcare facility at a UK film or TV studio.

On March 11 this year, Ofsted visited the centre for its first inspection and the place was found to be ‘good’.

The new report published on Wednesday (April 20) states children develop “warm and caring relationships” with staff and each other.

It was found that the kids had a “sense of pride and achievement” thanks to the consistent praise they received.

The report noted that the children also had a “wide range of stimulating and enjoyable experiences” – particularly with the vast choices of outdoor activities.

Jane Cowell, the director of childcare at the nursery, said: “The WonderWorks Nursery has been open just over 18 months and through probably the most difficult period we have known in the Early Years profession.”

She explained that most of the children have only “ever known life with Covid” but even then the nursery provided “safety, security and friendship”.

The director continued: “To get a solid good outcome at our first inspection and under such difficult circumstances is a huge achievement and we are incredibly proud of the whole nursery team.

“It was an utter delight to see that Ofsted describes our nursery as welcoming, warm, and caring and recognises our child centred approach to learning as having such a positive impact on children’s self-esteem and confidence.

“Our team pride itself on listening and responding to children so that they feel valued, respected, and cared for and we feel the inspection report reflects this.”

She concluded: “We are continuously striving to grow and develop, and we are looking forwards to sharing this journey with our families in the future.”
