A Watford man has been sentenced for having a samurai sword at his home and being in possession of cocaine.

William Quail, of Hamilton Road, pleaded guilty to four charges last month after the sword and a spring-loaded baton were found in November last year.

He was also in possession of cocaine and cannabis.

The 28-year-old was sentenced this week at St Albans Magistrates’ Court where a community order was made requiring him to have treatment for drug dependency.

He must also complete 50 hours’ unpaid work within the next year and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £95 victim services surcharge.

A man was found guilty of assaulting someone and intentionally damaging their motorcycle in Watford.

Sean James, 29, of Thamesdale in London Colney, denied the two charges but was found guilty before being sentenced this week.

He must pay £620 prosecution costs, £201 compensation and a £95 victim services surcharge.

James was also ordered to do 150 hours’ unpaid work within the next year.
