A teenager from Garston said it was “crazy” to have scooped a medal at the World Cheerleading Championships.

Mia Goodman, 16, and her teammates were unable to compete at the event in Florida during the pandemic but finally got their chance this year.

The Unity Allstar's Ruby team took their shot and got a bronze - the first medal won by the team at the championships in 11 years.

Mia said: “I finally made it out there and because we did so well it just made it that bit better and more special.

“It feels good to have won bronze. It felt crazy. It hasn’t hit me yet. UK teams rarely medal against the USA teams.”

The team includes 22 members aged 14 to 27 and they train at Unity Allstars in Surrey.

Mia added: “We will go back next year and hope to medal again, maybe try and do better, perhaps silver or gold.”

The competition took place over April 23 and 24.
