A fly-tipper who left piles of tyres at a Tesco car park has been fined.

Tom Ward, 57, was caught on CCTV entering the car park at Tesco in Rickmansworth, where he illegally deposited a large amount of tyres on June 17 last year.

The man of Kittiwake Way, Hayes, was also suspected to have made a similar offence in Buckinghamshire on June 20 that year.

Ward appeared before magistrates in High Wycombe on April 13 this year, where he received a 12-month suspended sentence and was ordered to pay £2,000 compensation split between Tesco and Buckinghamshire Council.

He was also told to pay a £156 victim surcharge.

Ray Figg, head of community services, said: “People’s waste is their responsibility and must be disposed of responsibly and legally. Fly-tipping is unsightly, dangerous for wildlife, and dumped materials can be hazardous.

“It takes staff time and tax payers’ money to clear and dispose of the waste, taking resources which could be better used elsewhere.”
